Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2024) Review: Best Budget Streamer?
Amazon's top Fire TV stick gets Wi-Fi 6E and faster hardware in its 2024 refresh. Is it finally good enough to skip the expensive competition?
Overview
At $59, the Fire TV Stick 4K Max is Amazon’s flagship streaming stick. The 2024 model brings Wi-Fi 6E support, a faster processor, and 16GB of storage — all while keeping the same compact form factor that plugs directly into your TV’s HDMI port.
Performance
Day-to-day streaming performance is snappy. Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, and YouTube all load quickly. Wi-Fi 6E makes a noticeable difference if your router supports it — buffering on crowded networks is virtually gone.
What We Liked
- Price — hard to beat $59 for 4K Dolby Vision/Atmos
- Wi-Fi 6E — fastest wireless on any streaming stick
- Alexa integration — genuinely useful for voice search
- App selection — everything is here, including live TV apps
- Ambient display — turns your TV into digital art when idle
What We Didn’t Like
- Ads everywhere — the home screen is full of promoted content
- Amazon ecosystem lock-in — some features only work well with Prime
- No Ethernet — requires an adapter sold separately
- Storage fills up — 16GB sounds like a lot until you install 10 apps
Verdict
The Fire TV Stick 4K Max is the easiest recommendation for most people. If you’re not a power user and just want Netflix/Prime/YouTube in 4K, nothing beats it at the price. Just ignore the ads.
